365 Days of Star Wars

OK. So I haven't posted anything on this blog for like forever. I'm currently working on a Star Wars campaign to be set during the Imperial Period 4 years before Episode IV: A New Hope. As I continue to work on the campaign, I plan to write about it.

While working on some NPCs today, I came across this Star Wars art blog 365 Days of Star Wars. So I really like its drawing style, and I'll probably use some images from it for character profiles. Enjoy!

Star Wars Miscellany 001

I've been meaning to write more about Star Wars, but have been wrapped up with writing reviews of anime for my other blog Cosmos Cubed. If you're interested, please check it out.

One item I've been talking about some in that blog is the upcoming release of John Carter (of Mars) on March 9. Check out my February 26 blog entry on it to see where I'm at on it. Parts of that discussion will begin to appear in this blog, as they are more relevant to Star Wars in general -- and how it will influence my Unification campaign, if I go through with it.

Anyway, I came across this fascinating blog about the order in which to watch the movies. Besides the traditional debate about which trilogy to start with (based on release date or by chronological order), the blog promotes two other orderings that are based on neither, but rather on narrative logic. Check it out: Star Wars Suggested Viewing Order. Stay tuned.

Darths & Droids

Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday mornings brings the next installment of Darths & Droids a web comic that models a science fiction roleplaying game in which the players enact some version of the Star Wars story (but definitely not one you're familiar with).

They've just started Episode IV: A New Hope. To see the first episode way back during Episode I: The Phantom Menace, follow this link: http://www.darthsanddroids.net/episodes/0001.html. Enjoy!

Phantom Menace 3D?

One of my rules for movie-watching (at least in the theaters) is that I go to see movies for the script, not the visuals or special effects. Good visuals and effects are a bonus; they don't make the movie for me. Every time I have broken my rule so far, I have been disappointed.

It may be that I haven't set my expectations low enough. Movies today are expensive to watch, and generally I want to get value for my money. Another of my rules is that if the movie doesn't work in 2D, why should I expect it to work in 3D?

I am tempted, however, to go see Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace 3D on the theory that this time my expectations are indeed low enough. I mean, I watch the movie right now solely for the visuals: the script is just that bad! The only way I can watch it right now is to watch it in the context of the RPG and what I can take from it for that! (And then I do kinda enjoy it.)

Could this be the case where 3D actually improves the film? I suspect so. And everything I've read in the social media online from fans indicates that this is indeed the case. Sooo, is anyone else game to see it?

New Blog!

This is my blog for all things Star Wars Saga Edition RPG and just plain Star Wars in general!
